The return of the cough
Poor K has been dealing with her asthma coughing for over a week now. She has not had an asthma attack in a very long time, I really thought she had outgrown it (knowing they never really do outgrow it). While camping, it seems the campfires triggered it this time. So the past couple nights have been awful and she (and I) have not been sleeping well. So we headed to the doctor. Good news is no wheezing (which you is good, you don't want wheezing), but he gave her some oral steroids to reduce the inflammation in her airways. It works too, the first night she was cough free (John said she did cough one time, but went right back to sleep) normally she would continue to cough a gagging cough for a period of time. Only problem with these meds? CRABBY K! phew, its almost exhausting to deal with her mood when she is on this medicine. But her last dose will be Monday night, which is only a few days away. And I would much rather have a crabby child vs one who can't stop coughing. Hopefully it does not return again in a few weeks, but if it does the doctor will put her on a maintenance med like Singulair. She used to be on that a few years ago. Strong odors and fumes are an asthma trigger for me and many other sufferers.
